Look Inside College Admissions with Jeffrey Selingo in Ocean County Library’s Virtual Author Talk Series

August 15, 2023

TOMS RIVER – College-bound students and their parents might find the admissions path mysterious. Jeffrey Selingo, whose Who Gets In and Why: A Year Inside College Admissions was a 2020 New York Times Most Notable Book, will shed light on the process during the next Ocean County Library Virtual Author Talk, 2 PM Wednesday, August 30.

During the discussion, Selingo intends to clear misconceptions about competition and to encourage families to reconsider their notions of “good” colleges. He’ll also touch on changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Selingo’s information-packed volume chronicles a year during which he inhabited admissions offices at the University of Washington, Emory University in Georgia, and Davidson College in North Carolina.

He observed high-school seniors navigating the process and became familiar with rankers, marketers, financial aid consultants, and other decision makers.

Selingo has written about higher education in books and periodicals for over two decades. He is a special advisor for innovation and professor of practice at Arizona State University, and co-host of the “FutureU” podcast.
