Manchester Library’s Various January Programs

MANCHESTER – The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library will host various programs throughout January.

“Free Wednesday Movies” 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Watch movies on the big screen without the admission fee of a movie theater. Call the branch at 732-657-7600 or visit theoceancountylibrary.org/events for film information. No registration required.

“Chicks with Sticks” 6:30 p.m. Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, and 2 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 10 and 24. Work on individual knitting and crocheting projects while sharing ideas and patters and forming friendships. No registration required.

“Chess Club” 12 p.m. Fridays, Jan. 4, 11, 18, and 25. Play chess in a relaxed atmosphere and share love for the game with beginners. Participants may bring their own game set. No registration required.

“Uber vs. Lyft – Understanding Ride Sharing” 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8. This will show the commonalities and differences between two of the most widely used ride-sharing services.

“Beginner Modern Dance for Adults” 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10. Experience the joy of dancing in this one-hour class combining dance, exercise, music, and fun. Learn the body mechanics of modern dance, gain strength and flexibility, and increase range of motion. Participants must sign a waiver before participating and should wear comfortable clothing.

“Quilting Bee” 1 p.m. Fridays, Jan. 11 and 25. Work on individual and group projects while exchanging ideas, patterns, techniques and conversation. No registration required.

“Writer’s Circle” 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15. Participants critique one another’s work and discuss issues pertinent to authorship and getting published.

“Book Chat” 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17.Participants discuss what they have been reading with the rest of the group and pick up ideas for what to read next. No registration required.

“Calming Coloring” 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. Coloring is one of the hottest new trends in stress relief for adults. Spend a relaxing afternoon creating, listening to soothing music, and relaxing with likeminded adults at the library. Coloring sheets, pencils, markers, and crayons will be supplied. This program usually features aroma therapy and a visit from a therapy dog.

“Newspapers, Magazines, and Journals” 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22. Learn about free access to some of Ocean County Library’s databases, including America’s News Magazines, America’s Newspapers, Consumer Reports Magazine, and Academic Search Premier.

“Easy Crafts to Spark Warm Feelings” 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28. Make two Valentine’s Day-themed crafts including candy pretzel stick matches with boxes. There will also be a surprise craft to be announced at the program.

“Beginning/Intermediate French Club” and “Advanced French Club” will not meet in January.
