Ocean County Library to Offer the Art of Japanese Painting

April 16, 2018

LONG BEACH ISLAND -  The Ocean County Library will present “Capture the Spirit: Sumi-e Painting with Glenys Baulderstone” 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 30 at the Ocean County Library’s Long Beach Island Branch, 217 S. Central Ave. in Surf City.

Baulderstone, artist and presenter, will introduce the history and technique of Sumi-e, the mystical Japanese art of painting images through simple and yet most skillful strokes of black Asian ink.

Attendees will watch as she gracefully conjures images of beauty using the humble tools of a grinding stone, ink, brush, and paper. The art requires spiritual reflection and discipline which she has spent years studying with a master sensei in Japan.

The program is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register call the Long Beach Island Branch at 609-494-2480 or visit www.theoceancountylibrary.org and click Events & News.
