Rutgers Offers Virtual Guide to Rewarding Autistic Life During Ocean County Library’s 2022 Autism Resources Fair

March 29, 2022

TOMS RIVER – Adults living with autism can learn about a Rutgers University program that offers personalized support for life success. Supporting Community Access through Leisure and Employment (SCALE) will be the subject of a virtual seminar, 7 PM Monday, April 25, as part of the Ocean County Library 2022 Autism Resources Fair.

SCALE, the primary program of the Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services (RCAAS), provides year-round guidance for relationships, employment, and transportation. Program Director Dr. James Maraventano, EdD, BCBA-D, will lead the Zoom presentation.

Open to individuals age 21 and up, with primary diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), SCALE provides supports that are oriented to community-based settings.

Participants engage in full-time, part-time and volunteer employment, on or near the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus. Individual skill assessments are used to find the most efficient routes to autonomy. Staffing, scheduling and training are customized and adapted to meet changing needs.

Dr. Maraventano, who coordinates and supervises all clinical and administrative aspects of SCALE, has worked with children and adults with intellectual impairments and autism for more than 15 years.

His research and clinical interests include challenging-behavior assessment and intervention, skill acquisition programming, vocational assessments, staff and parent training, school- and home-based consultation, and program evaluation.

Registration at www.theoceancountylibrary.org.events is required to attend this free program. Registrants will receive links to the program by email. Registrants who request professional development credits during signup will receive them after the program.

The Autism Resources Fair is made possible through a generous donation by the Ocean County Library Foundation.
